Mission statement: empowering the human spirit (mine and others) through the artistry, fitness and therapeutic qualities of eastern dance forms.

My Dance Intentions

Current focus: unforgettable performances that are elegant, dignified, entertaining, proficient and spirited. How: I try to achieve something close to being a visual conduit of music attuned to audience mood but drawing upon the entire range of human emotion with which to portray my own interpretation. To be perfectly honest, my fun-loving playful side typically gets the best of me.

History

Sabeen, a very good friend, invited me to one of her class recitals. My first exposure to raks sharki (bellydance) converted me on the spot to an adoring fan. Actually, I was jealous to be barred from such an obviously enjoyable activity but some timely stigma-crushing education and adamant encouragement got me started. Future Plans

Artistry: not just to promote authentic eastern dance forms or to share my love of dance but also to empower *other* men to express themselves through dance as well.

Fitness Bellydance:  CLASSES NOW IN SESSION.  CALL/EMAIL FOR INFO.

Therapeutics: it is said that royalty supported court dance in Sri Lanka after an ancient king's migraine was cured by a rivetting, powerful dance performance. Benefits to an audience aside, what benefits does the dancer receive? Music connects us to our emotions while dance lets us express it. Does the structure of eastern dance forms have a place in modern dance therapy?
